At some point in their lives, mostly every guy is going to be in situation with a woman that calls for a hasty, sneaky exit. Whether or not they do it depends on a number of things: whether or not they have brass balls, what the woman in question is like, and whether an escape is at all possible. Sometimes guys might try it even if it’s not a good idea, which will probably lead to a massive disaster that just winds up making things even worse. If you’ve ever been in this kind of situation but weren’t sure how to make a sneaky exit, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve written up some guidelines for you to follow. Read through and you’ll be more than prepared the next time a date or a hookup goes wrong.
Always Have a Plan
“Tell her that you have to leave”
It should go without saying, but you should always have some sort of plan in place in case the situation takes a turn for the worse. It doesn’t have to be something massively complex. In fact, in can be as simple as discreetly texting your friend a code word, which in turn will lead to your friend calling you about a staged emergency that you can then use to get the hell out of there. It doesn’t matter what kind of escape plan you come up with as long as it’s believable. If your date figures out what you’re doing you can count on there being some kind of scene, which is pretty much exactly what you wanted to avoid in the first place.
Pick a Good Location
“Always choose a place surrounded by people”
Making a stealthy exit is mostly going to rely on the location of the date. A crowded restaurant or bar, for example, is going to be easier for you to sneak out of than a quiet, laid back pub or coffee shop. If you’re not sure about this woman going into the date, you should try to set things up at a location that’s conducive to getting away fast in the event that things suddenly start to head south. Try to pick a crowded, noisy place. Bars, restaurants, and any kind of sports venue are all good choices. Do not set the date at some place isolated like your place or hers where it’s just the two of you one on one. In that kind of situation it will be almost impossible for you to make a getaway should in the event that things turn bad.
Commit to the Exit
If you’ve decided that yes, you are going to bail on this woman, you need to commit to that decision. This means that you can’t change your mind 15 minutes later and come back. If you’ve been gone for that long she’s probably figured out what you were doing, which means that if she sees you again she won’t be too pleased. So once you’ve made your exit, stick to it even if you start feeling guilty. You can always try to text, call, or email her with an excuse (but good luck finding one that doesn’t sound totally lame) if you change your mind after the fact.
